Jazz Trumpet Virtuosi’s First Visit to Wells

The brass department, in partnership with the jazz department, were delighted to welcome jazz trumpet virtuosi, Percy Pursglove, for a trumpet masterclass at the end of January. Percy, in his first visit to Wells, spent the day working with trumpet pupils from Years 6 to 13 in three classes exploring jazz improvisation and creative soundscape work. Percy is a lecturer in jazz at Birmingham Conservatoire and works with The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Wales and The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland. An inspiring performer, Percy brought his unique style of jazz teaching to Wells, accompanying the students on double bass as well as playing trumpet in a dazzling array of different jazz styles and genres.
