Tate St Ives

Last Friday Wells GCSE art pupils visited Tate St. Ives and the Barbara Hepworth sculpture garden and museum. This trip forms the contextual ‘springboard’ for generating ideas and work for the Year 11 GCSE exam and Year 10 mock exam, based on the theme of ‘Reflection’. The pupils enjoyed sketchbook tours of the Modern Art of St. Ives; a collection of 20th Century art created in and around St. Ives. This included work by Ben Nicholson, Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth, Piet Mondrian, Patrick Heron and Naum Gabo. The pupils also visited the Barbara Hepworth sculpture garden and produced exciting, vibrant and expressive drawings in response to both venues and collections.
