This course, led by a distinguished team of tutors from Wells Cathedral School String Department will offer higher level participants (aged 12-18) the chance to work towards more challenging works in greater depth. Players can enrol as pre-formed groups or as individuals to be formed into ensembles on arrival.
This course is designed for experienced players who have reached, as a minimum standard, the equivalent of Grade 8 Distinction, and have the requisite skills and desire to work at the highest level. Players who have not yet reached Grade 8 should see our intermediate course.
Pupils who are not already known to the team of tutors will be asked to supply a short video of two contrasting pieces before their application will be formally accepted.
Our Advanced course offers a balance of chamber music coaching, solo lessons with an informal performance opportunity, as well as daily string orchestra rehearsals. The week culminates in a concert on Saturday afternoon that is open to family and friends.
Whilst we encourage everyone to take part in all performances and activities, we will not force anyone to participate if they don’t want to do so for whatever reason. However, we hope our friendly and accepting community will lead all musicians to take part, even if it is slightly outside of their normal comfort zone!
Course tutors will generally be either full- or part-time teaching staff of Wells Cathedral School, a government-recognised specialist music school that is known for its quality teaching and musical opportunities for pre-professional musicians. However, should our staff be unavailable for our jazz summer school, we will appoint music teachers of a comparable calibre to teach courses.
