International Chamber Music School

Saturday 9th to Thursday 14th April 2022

This course is designed for students aged 12 to 18 who wish to focus on the intensive study of chamber music. Working with the distinguished team of tutors from Wells Cathedral School Players can enrol as pre-formed groups or as individuals to be formed into ensembles. Aside from rehearsals and coaching there will be workshops and informal performance opportunities, and the course will culminate in a concert that is open to family and friends.

This course is designed for experienced ensemble players who have reached, as a minimum standard, the equivalent of Grade 7, and have the requisite skills and desire to work at the highest level. A limited number of pianists will also be accepted onto this course; please contact Simon Smith before applying. Pupils who are not already known to the team of tutors are also advised to contact Simon Smith before applying.

Players who have not yet reached Grade 7 should see our summer course.

Performance Opportunities

The course culminates in a concert that is open to family and friends. Whilst we encourage everyone to take part in all performances and activities, we will not force anyone to participate if they don’t want to do so for whatever reason. However, we hope our friendly and accepting community will lead all musicians to take part, even if it is slightly outside of their normal comfort zone!

Other Activities

Meet Our World-Class Staff

Course tutors will generally be either full- or part-time teaching staff of Wells Cathedral School, a government-recognised specialist music school that is known for its quality teaching and musical opportunities for pre-professional musicians. However, should our staff be unavailable for our jazz summer school, we will appoint music teachers of a comparable calibre to teach courses.
