This course is recommended for young composers aged between 12 and 18 who have some experience of composing music and wish to develop their skills and experience further, and compose a new piece in a week!
If possible, please bring a laptop with music notation software (Sibelius/MuseScore/Dorico) installed.
During this course, you will have the opportunity to write a piece of music to be performed at the end of course concert on Thursday evening that is open to family and friends. that is open to family and friends. You will receive tuition in composition through group sessions and individual lessons, and you will learn about composing for instruments through workshops.
You should have had some experience of composing music already, and you will need to be able to notate your ideas fluently and reliably. There are no restraints of the style of music that you can compose during the week, but an open mind and willingness to try out new things will help to get the creative juices flowing!

Course tutors will generally be either full- or part-time teaching staff of Wells Cathedral School, a government-recognised specialist music school that is known for its quality teaching and musical opportunities for pre-professional musicians. However, should our staff be unavailable for our easter composition school, we will appoint music teachers of a comparable calibre to teach courses.

The course costs £695 boarding and £565 day. The course includes meals (lunch and dinner for day). An early-bird discount of 10% will apply for bookings made before 25th November 2023.
A deposit of 25% of the course fee is required to reserve your place, with the balance due on 24th February 2024. Bookings made after the 24th February 2024 must be accompanied by the full fee for the course. Deposits are non-refundable.
