Overview

During our inspirational Single Reed Day, you will:

  • take part in workshops and ensembles for all abilities
  • join masterclasses with music conservatoire professors
  • receive tips on motivation, performance and maximising your practice
  • enjoy optional reed making sessions
  • play in Cedars Hall, our state-of-the-art performance venue.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, but please bring a packed lunch.

About the Tutoring Team

Robert Plane
Clarinet

Robert teaches at the Royal Welsh College as well as giving regular masterclasses at RAM, RCM and Birmingham Conservatoire. He has been principal clarinet with the CBSO, Royal Northern Sinfonia and BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Rob Buckland
Saxophone

Rob is internationally acclaimed as one of the most distinctive saxophonists. He regularly works with the Michael Nyman Band, London Saxophonic and the BBC Philharmonic. Rob is Professor of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Edward Leaker, Head of Woodwind
Ed Leaker
Saxophone and Clarinet

Edward is head of woodwind and jazz at Wells Cathedral School. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and has enjoyed an international freelance career in both jazz and classical ensembles. He currently leads the Swing Machine Jazz Orchestra.

Andy Tweed
Saxophone

Andy teaches masterclasses and workshops nationally whilst also teaching at Wells Cathedral School and Birmingham Conservatoire. His performing credits are diverse, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Syd Lawrence Orchestra and The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
