MATHS SCHOLARSHIPS
AT WELLS CATHEDRAL SCHOOL

About Mathematics Scholarships at Wells

Our Mathematics Scholarships are awarded to pupils with truly exceptional mathematical ability and potential. Successful candidates take part in an enriching specialist mathematics programme that both extends and challenges them. Our Mathematics Scholarships are open to external pupils looking to join us in Years 7, 9, 10 and Lower Sixth. We also welcome applications from our current pupils who are progressing into Years 7, 9 and 12.

Most successful applicants will be awarded 10% of their day fees. We do award a finite number of scholarships worth up to 50% of day fees for truly exceptional candidates, which will be awarded solely at our discretion. Additional means-tested financial assistance also may be available.

Our Maths Scholarship Process

Deadlines for applications for our Maths Scholarships are in early January. Applicants are then invited to a Scholarship Day in mid-January. Assessment will consist of a CAT4 paper and a problem solving maths challenge. Candidates will also have two interviews and a team challenge. Please click here for forms, dates and details about our Scholarship Programme.

Pupils currently in Years 5 or 6 who are looking to join us in Year 7 are also strongly encouraged to attend one of our Be a Specialist Mathematician for a Day events. See this page for details.

“The group still participate in the life of the school, for example my son enjoys music groups, takes roles in drama productions and plays in sports matches. Wells really is a lovely school with so much to offer. The ‘Be a Mathematician’ days are the best way to see what is involved in the scheme and gain an insight into the school.”

“My son is in Year 9 at Wells. He has been in the Specialist Maths group since Year 7, and I would thoroughly recommend it to those gifted in and interested in Maths. There is an excellent teaching team who really motivate the children and his Maths is now well beyond what would be expected in Year 9.”
