Private Peaceful
With a series of stunning performances over three nights last week, Wells marked the centenary year of the end of World War 1 by telling Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful, the compelling tale of love, loyalty, bravery and redemption as this year’s poignant, yet life-affirming senior school production.
Private Peaceful relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn.
During the night, he looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon: his exciting first days at school; the accident in the forest that killed his father; his adventures with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line.
Featuring an original live score specially commissioned for the production from pupil Thomas, and an ensemble cast, this amateur production of “Private Peaceful (Ensemble version)”, took place in Cedars Hall to rapturous reviews.
