Congratulations to Lower Sixth trumpeter Eliza and Year 11 pianist Max, who are joint winners of this year’s Concerto Competition.
The finals of the competition were held at the start of May in Cedars Hall, when performances by all six finalists were adjudicated by Stephen Threlfall, Director of Music at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester.
Both Eliza and Max will each perform their concertos with the School Symphony Orchestra either in Cedars Hall or in Wells Cathedral next academic year.
The standard of performance from all of the finalists was very high standard and as a result Lower Sixth trumpeter Danni, Year 11 violinist Nellie, Year 11 pianist Sejin and Lower Sixth oboist Ella will all be offered high-profile performance opportunities in Cedars Hall during the next academic year.
Wells Director of Music, Mark Stringer said, “All of the finalists worked extremely hard in preparing for the final and their commitment to that and to their performances last night set a great example to all.”
