Sound of Wells Festival
From Thursday 18th-Sunday 21st May, many of our pupils were involved in the Sound of Wells Festival.
Beginning on Thursday lunchtime with a recital given by our pianists, the Ascension Day Festal Eucharist in the evening saw the premiere of a new introit by Joey Hardin (Upper Sixth).
On Friday lunchtime there was a recital of new music composed over the past year by pupils, and on Saturday evening the Choristers sung in a joyous ‘musical fanfare’ celebrating all of Wells Cathedral’s choral ensembles, accompanied by brass and organ, including Parry’s I was Glad, John Rutter’s Gloria, and a concert premiere of Grayston Ives’ Hear, O ye Kings.
The Choristers were in action again on Sunday, singing for an Orchestral Eucharist in the morning accompanied by School instrumentalists, and in a Festal Evensong at 3pm which brought the Festival to a conclusion with contemporary masterworks including Roxanna Panufnik’s O Hearken, Alexander L’Estrange’s New College Service, and the premiere of Patrick Hawes’ Most glorious Lord of life, commissioned for the occasion by Cathedral Commissions.
