Musical Extravaganza at WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Musical Extravaganza

Thursday 8th June saw the final Extravaganza concert of the School year with a jam-packed concert showcasing a huge array of ensembles made up of pupils of all years and musical experiences.

The first half began with the Prep School Orchestra, with a medley from Wicked and then Sinfonietta followed by another medley of James Bond themes. After some Holst from the Symphonic Wind Band, the Years 7 to 9 choir gave us arrangements of folk songs and performance of Cups from Pitch Perfect. We also heard a first outing for Mr Coward’s Flexi Ensemble, showcasing in particular the talents of non-specialist musicians. The Prep Jazz Ensemble ended the first half with a groovy rendition of Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Man.

After some wonderful marimba music in the Foyer during the interval, the second half began with some beautiful Strauss and Elgar from the String Ensemble, followed by Barbershop with some fabulous solos by departing Upper Sixth. The evening ended with the Jazz Ensemble teaming up with talented vocal soloists for three toe-tapping numbers.

Thanks to the huge number of pupils and members of staff who were involved with such a terrific evening!
