Music Department receives donation of conducting scores
The Music Department is delighted to have received a significant collection of conducting scores from Dr Colin Hammond.
Dr Hammond visited the School on Wednesday 29th November to hear our Symphony Orchestra in action, rehearsing the epic first movement of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.
He is a retired conductor and musicologist who is clear that he wishes future generations of musicians to be as inspired by classical music as he has been during his long life. His doctorate was on the symphonies of Anton Bruckner and it is truly wonderful that part of his donation features the Bruckner Symphonies, including the very copies that he studied and worked from.
Dr Hammond and his family were delighted to meet some of our musicians. He expressed his admiration for their talents and, in conversation with Mr Laing, was clearly inspired and reassured that Classical Symphonic Music is being taught and studied at a high level here at Wells.
