St Nicholas Day
Pupils in Years 7 and 8 celebrated St Nicholas Day through reverse giving.
St Nicholas is known for his generosity and his secret gift-giving, and tradition in many European countries says that he visits children on the night of the 5th/6th to give them sweets if they have been good. Instead of stockings, children leave their shoes outside their bedroom door, hoping to wake up to a treat in the morning!
This year pupils were encouraged to make donations to a local animal rescue centre, Happy Landings. Items the animals needed included old newspapers to keep them warm, washing powder for their bedding and tins of fish and meat for training and enrichment.
Those who left donations and a shoe outside their classroom at tutor time received a ‘thank you’ token for their kindness.
