Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 6th February, the Senior School marked Safer Internet Day during their tutor period through the theme of “Inspiring Change”.
Mr Moore, Head of Computing, explained, “We have decided to look at the use of social media and how the use of social media can be addictive. We evaluated how this affects the teen brain and how the brain is stimulated by dopamine. We considered the advantages and the disadvantages of social media – it is not going to go away, so we want our pupils to be able to determine if their use of social media has an impact on their mental health.”
Pupils watched a short video that explains the issues and another short video of a neurologist who explains the impact on the mind, then had a conversation with their tutor before completing an anonymous questionnaire inviting them to reflect on the themes discussed.
