Symphony Orchestra concert
The pairing of Mozart’s Requiem with highlights from Tchaikovsky’s ballet scores allowed Wells to demonstrate what makes it so special: Music on a grand scale, performed by large and excellent forces.
In the first half the Symphony Orchestra, in full glorious force, performed some of the most famous tunes ever composed, expertly compèred by members of the orchestra. The wind solos weaved through the textures beautifully, the sugar plum fairy danced expressively and the string section sounded warm, round and full in all the waltzes.
After the interval the orchestra became the choir and an almost entirely different orchestra arrived to perform Mozart’s iconic Requiem. Highlights of this performance included outstanding solo singing from nine pupils, some glorious brass playing including a fabulous trombone soloist, and truly impressive singing from the whole chorus.
Congratulations to all on memorable performances and especially to conductors Mr Brink and Mr Finch.
