Theatre trips
It has been an exciting few days of theatre trips in the Drama Department.
Twenty-two A level Theatre Studies pupils experienced a thought-provoking and intense production of Deep Blue Sea by Terrence Rattigan starring the renowned actor of stage and screen, Tamsin Greig. Performed in the intimate venue of the Ustinov Studio in Bath, those attending were inspired by the complex characters and pure naturalistic style.
In contrast, the whole of Year 9 were treated to the international smash-hit musical Hamilton, currently showing at Bristol Hippodrome. Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped-through biographical musical with music, lyrics, and a book by Lin-Manuel Miranda as well as choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler. Based on the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, the musical covers the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and his involvement in the American Revolution and the political history of the early United States. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures. Miranda describes Hamilton as about “America then, as told by America now.” It was an outstanding production that wowed the pupils, and was a lovely opportunity to get the year group together for a social and creative opportunity.
