Welsh 3000s

Over the September Exeat weekend, six pupils and three staff headed to Snowdonia (Eyri) National Park for a weekend of mountaineering.

On the first day, the pupils headed to the Glyderau range, summiting seven peaks (Eilidir Fach (795m), Eilidir Fawr (924m), Mynydd Perfedd (812m), Foel Goch (831m), Y Garn (947m), Glyder Fawr (1001m), Glyder Fach (994m)) and dropped back into the valley just as the sun was setting in the distance over the Menai Straits and the Isle of Anglesey. On the second day, the pupils took on the quintessential Snowdonia scramble that is the North Ridge of Tryfan, a Grade 1 scramble. The pupils climbed over steeper terrain, over rocks and through gulleys to reach the summit at 917m, before descending via the West Gully, reaching the minibus just as the heavens opened! On the third day, they made the most of a brief dry spell in the morning by exploring the Llanberis slate mines. In the afternoon, they sheltered from the storms by going to experience The Beacon, one of the best climbing walls in the UK.

A fantastic time was had by all, and huge thanks must be extended to Mr Barnard and Mrs Dine!
