House Public Speaking Competition

Chris D (Lower Sixth) writes the following account of our House Public Speaking Competition:

Last Friday was St Andrew’s Day which culminated in the return of the School’s annual Inter-House Public Speaking Competition. The competition was fiercer than ever, the standard of public speaking consistently top drawer. The themes from the evening’s speeches varied from American politics to women’s rights to comedy. In the end, Ritchie House were victorious with their topical speech: TikTok: It’s Time for Social Media to Go, ably delivered by Conrad T (Upper Sixth). Awards were also presented to Wayland W (Shrewsbury House, Lower Sixth), Etty A (Best Chairperson, Lower Sixth) and Lily C (Best Questioner, Year 9). Everyone had their favourite speech but all those who took part can be proud of the way in which they represented their House. The audience were captivated for two hours and we hope that many will have been inspired to step up next year!
