Chinese New Year celebration assembly WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Chinese New Year celebration assembly

The Senior School gathered in the Cathedral for the annual assembly celebration of Chinese New Year. Chris C and Hana W (Upper Sixth) explained the context of the celebration and their special New Year memories before introducing Key C (Upper Sixth)’s performance of ‘Racing Horses’. This was followed by Yentl L and Pansy L (Upper Sixth)’s explanation of zodiac signs and the Year of the Snake, and they introduced Riana T, Crystal S (Upper Sixth), Rosie L and Eden H (Year 11)’s rendition of ‘When Will The Turning Of Seasons End’. Finally, Enoch Y and Yentl L (Upper Sixth) read a prayer in Cantonese and English.

The EAL Department would like to say a big thank you to all of the pupils who took part in the Chinese New Year assembly this year. They all worked extremely hard in preparation for the assembly and did a fantastic job on the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to get an insight into what Chinese New Year is all about. Many took the opportunity to make Wells feel a bit more like home for our international pupils at this special time of year, by decorating various classrooms and areas of the School with red lanterns and New Year decorations, as well as the delicious Chinese meal prepared by the Catering staff. Many happy memories were made, beginning the New Year in such a special way.
