Year 5 forecast la météo WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Year 5 forecast la météo

Year 5 pupils have been studying a variety of expressions to describe the weather in French (from “Il fait chaud” to “Il y a du brouillard”), as well as temperatures and seasons.

Having worked hard on modelling the language and receptive processing, whereby the children practice the language in context with listening and reading activities, they then focused on production. Pupils had to listen to Ms Desmarchelier say a sentence in English, then use cards with chunks of sentences to work collaboratively to recreate the sentences in French.

Ms Desmarchelier, the School’s Director of Languages, praised their work: “In a week when we focused on detective skills, pupils had to work as a team to find the right chunks and to rearrange them, highlighting the structure of sentences – each chunk had different colours, and then they told me all the sentences had the same colour pattern! Mission accomplished!
