Woodwind trip to the Royal Academy of Music
Specialist Woodwind pupils spent two days in London last week rehearsing for a lunchtime concert at The Royal Academy of Music (RAM). The ‘side by side’ project involved Academy students forming three ensembles with our pupils to perform the Strauss Serenade for Winds, Ruth Gipps’ Seascape and Caplet’s Suite Persane. The concert and rehearsals were led by RAM Head of Woodwind, Fraser Gordon, who was very impressed by Wells pupils.
Mr Leaker, Head of Woodwind, said, “I was delighted by how well our pupils were able to integrate and blend with undergraduates at RAM. This was a wonderful opportunity for our two departments to collaborate and for pupils to experience a leading UK conservatoire. I am looking forward to hosting a concert with RAM students back in Wells next year.”
