West Side Story triumphs at awards
In addition to being finalists at the National School Theatre Awards, this academic year’s Senior School production of West Side Story has been recognised by NODA (National Opera and Drama Association), winning the NODA South West District Achievement Award, and securing two further award nominations; South West: Best Youth Production and Best Company Singing. We are delighted that the magnificent musical production in the Advent Term has received such wonderful further external recognition.
Mr Todres, Director of Drama & Theatre Studies, comments, “Bringing this story to life in a professional theatre for a week has been a true labour of love involving nearly a hundred individuals—from the production crew, performers and musicians, to the dedicated staff team who helped facilitate the entire experience and support our talented pupils. While it is always an honour to have our work celebrated in this way, the real success lies in the journey our pupils undertook together. Through this experience, they not only challenged themselves artistically and stepped far outside their comfort zones, but also forged lasting friendships, discovered lifelong passions, and developed essential human skills such as confidence, communication and empathy. At Wells, we believe that providing formative opportunities like this is central to educating the whole child, and the qualities developed through this process will remain with them long after the final curtain falls.”
