Year 4 Ancient Egypt workshop WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Year 4’s Ancient Egypt workshop

Year 4 enjoyed a brilliant workshop run by the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford where they examined real Ancient Egyptian artefacts and discussed what they might have been used for; re-enacted Egyptian bread making; created gold ankhs (the symbol of the Egyptian afterlife); examined tomb paintings for evidence about Egyptian dances and then had a go a recreating the moves; made clay game pieces and designed skittles-style games, inspired by a real Egyptian artefact from over 3,000 years ago; then enjoyed an Egyptian feast of bread, goat’s cheese, pomegranate, grapes, olives, lentils with garlic and leeks, honey, figs and dates, all washed down with a glass of grape juice!
