Concerto Competition WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Concerto Competition final

The Evening of Concertos was a simply stunning evening of the highest quality. Melvin W (piano, Year 11), Morgan B (trombone), Jasper Y (clarinet), Anton P (piano), Ruan S (violin) and Emma S (violin, Lower Sixth) all competed to win the prize of performing as soloist with the School Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations to Emma S on being judged the winner after her performance of Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto. In truth, the competition element seemed unimportant as each performer handled the technical and musical demands of their instruments and the music with poise, care and professionalism.

The adjudicator, James Williams (Director of the Royal College of Music) was fulsome in his praise for the whole evening saying:

There is no other school in the country which could have achieved this.”

Congratulations to all and thanks also to the collaborative piano team of Mr Hansom, Mr Carrey, Ms Walker and Ms Rigby for their superb playing and support of our exceptional young musicians.
