Musical Extravaganza June 2025
We had a wonderful array of music on display in Monday’s Extravaganza concert.
There were new elements in all areas: Jazz Ensemble had a new arrangement of Ellington’s Caravan written by Ben G (Upper Sixth), the Prep and Year 7-9 Choirs combined for the first time to sing Bridge Over Troubled Water and Cathedral Percussion stole the show with an arrangement of Ibiza classics by Ian C (Upper Sixth) who also DJed through the performance, stirring the audience up into a frenzy! Other dance music from across the centuries was showcased from Renaissance dances (All Comers Orchestra and Prep Orchestra) through Rimsky-Korsakov’s Dance of the Tumblers (Sinfonietta) to A Time to Dance & Highlights to La La Land (Symphonic Wind Band), stopping off in Argentina with String Ensemble’s performance of Evening Shadows, featuring Mr Laing tangoing across the stage rose-between-teeth! The Year 7 to 9 Choir were sensitively accompanied by pupil pianists Ezra H (Year 10) and Anton P (Lower Sixth) with cellist Juna B (Year 10) playing a gorgeous obligato cello solo, and Cambiata gave a stirring performance of Steal Away skillfully directed by outgoing GMA Mr Gooding.
It was an amazing effort from pupils and staff and a great testament to the huge range of musical talent and teamwork we have here at Wells.
