Prep School celebrate sport successes
This Term has been packed with standout sporting achievements across a range of disciplines, showcasing the determination, talent and resilience of our younger pupils. From long-distance running and elite swimming to the multi-discipline demands of triathlon, Our athletes have truly risen to the challenge. Whether representing the School, the Mendip District or competing on a national stage, our pupils have shown remarkable commitment and skill.
Cross country
After another strong season for our Running team, who competed in four challenging events as part of the Mendip Cross Country League, we were delighted to see Maddie G (Year 3), Oliver G (Year 5) and Harriet T (Year 6) qualify to represent the Mendip District at the Inter-Area Cross Country Finals in Yeovil. Competing against some of the best young runners in the region, all three pupils gave outstanding performances on the day and represented both Mendip and our School with determination and pride. Their commitment, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the season have been exemplary – congratulations to Maddie, Oliver and Harriet on a fantastic achievement!
Swimming
Earlier this Term, both Thea M and Emmott N (Year 5) proudly represented WCS at the 2025 IAPS Swimming Final at the London Aquatics Centre, Stratford. Both Thea and Emmott have done extremely well to have qualified for the final and performed excellently on the day, with a new PB for Thea in 50m Butterfly and a great 50m Breaststroke swim from Emmott. It’s a huge achievement to have swam in an Olympic swimming pool! Well done to both swimmers, we are extremely proud of you.
Triathlon
The recent IAPS Triathlon event held at Monkton Prep School offered a true test of stamina and resilience for all competitors. Against the stunning backdrop of the Somerset hills, competitors navigated a challenging course that demanded both physical and mental toughness. Over 300 children took part from 58 schools and Ben S (Year 6) managed to achieve the honour of becoming the Year 6 Boys IAPS champion! This is a phenomenal achievement – congratulations Ben.
We are incredibly proud of the breadth and quality of our sporting provision at Wells Cathedral School. These achievements are a testament to the supportive environment that encourages the talent and drive of our pupils to thrive, giving them the opportunities, coaching and encouragement to push their boundaries and reach their potential. Sport is a vital part of life at Wells, building confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of physical activity – and we couldn’t be prouder of everything our young athletes have accomplished this Term.
