Alexander performs with Jess Gillam MBE at parliamentary event championing Music education
Alexander S (Lower Sixth) travelled to London this week to perform alongside saxophonist Jess Gillam MBE at the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)’s Music Education Event, which serves the purpose of bringing together MPs and their local heads of music services from all over the country. During the event, four Future Talent young musicians formed a string quartet alongside Jess to perform a variety of chamber and solo pieces to show the musical talents of young people across the country and demonstrate why music education matters. Future Talent were invited by Anna Sabine (MP for Frome and East Somerset) to perform at the APPG’s Music Education event, where parliamentarians pledged their support for the future of music education. MPs who attended, including The Speaker of the House of Commons (The Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle) met representatives of music hubs to find out about the work being done in their local constituencies. The young musicians were encouraged to talk with MPs and music leads, to share their stories and what music means to them.
Alexander thoroughly enjoyed the experience and also got a tour of the Houses Of Parliament at the end of the day.
