Fizz, foam and funky fluids! Year 4 Scientists explore states of matter

Year 4 pupils have been busy becoming real scientists as they explored the fascinating topic of States of Matter. Through hands-on experiments, the children investigated whether gases have weight, using fizzy drinks and scales to test their ideas. They watched in amazement as raisins danced up and down in fizzy lemonade, discovering how bubbles of gas can make objects move. The highlight for many was creating a mysterious non-Newtonian fluid — sometimes acting like a solid, sometimes like a liquid — as they tested and debated what it really was. The classroom was filled with excitement, curiosity and plenty of messy fun as pupils developed their scientific thinking and investigative skills.
