Armonico Consort concert
The collaborative concert with the Armonico Consort brought together our School Chamber Choir, Prep School Choir, professional musicians and local youth choirs for an inspiring afternoon and evening of music-making in the Cathedral.
After an afternoon of spirited rehearsals in a decidedly chilly space, both School Choirs settled in quickly for what proved to be a memorable musical occasion. The Chamber Choir enjoyed the remarkable experience of singing side by side with the Armonico Consort’s professional singers, gaining valuable insight into performing alongside seasoned musicians under the direction of the renowned conductor Christopher Monks. The Prep School Choir also shone, singing confidently and entirely from memory.
The programme featured Karl Jenkins’s powerful The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace and a brand-new commission, Peace in Our Time, composed by Andrew Wainwright. Thoughtful interludes were read by Prep School pupils, and our talented Upper Sixth soloists, Amelie T and Josie C (Upper Sixth), delivered beautifully poised performances.
By the evening, the Cathedral was packed with an appreciative audience whose warm response made the experience unforgettable for all involved. Sincere thanks go to Mrs Rowntree, Mrs Campbell and Mr Brink for their superb organisation—and congratulations to every pupil who took part in this uplifting musical event.
