DofE Duke of Edinburgh expeditions WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

DofE expeditions

22 Year 11 pupils completed their Silver DofE expedition in the Brecon Beacons over the final weekend of the holidays. They spent three nights camping and three days hiking with full kit, covering at least seven hours of journey time each day. Groups climbed over high summits, and some even discovered a path that passed behind a waterfall. Despite last-minute route changes due to gale-force winds and heavy rain, all groups successfully finished their expedition, showing great determination and perseverance.

Pupils in the Upper Sixth also completed their Gold qualifying expedition in the Lake District. In a summer of almost constant sunshine, they were very unlucky to face some of the worst weather of the year, but they never let this get them down. They faced the rain with determination, supported each other with good humour, and showed their true character in not only coping with adversity, but by embracing it and even enjoying it. Each and every one of them is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we push ourselves out of our comfort zone, and they should all be very proud of their accomplishments.
