Maestro Series masterclass with Martin Taylor
It was a real honour to have Martin Taylor, widely recognised as one of the world’s great jazz guitarists, working with our guitar pupils alongside pupils from The Blue School during his masterclass as part of the Maestro Series.
The sessions explored mainly jazz, but went far beyond style alone, with discussions about creating individual sound worlds, developing character as musicians and performers, and learning to communicate something personal through music. Pupils also asked excellent questions, with Martin offering invaluable insight into what it is really like to build a career in music, how life and the profession are constantly changing, and the need to keep evolving creatively, even at the highest level and at his stage of life. Above all, he encouraged pupils to find their own voice, trust it, and stick with it.
