Clare Rowntree, Head of Music and Performing Arts (Prep School), Teacher of Violin and Viola
Clare studied the viola with Peter Lewis at Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban) and, after graduating, embarked on a successful freelance performing career. She has performed with numerous orchestras, including The Bristol Ensemble, Orchestra of the Swan and Bath Philharmonia. As a chamber musician, her string quartet has performed extensively throughout the South of England, with notable engagements including appearances at the Millennium Dome (now The O2), performances for members of the Royal Family, and concerts aboard HMS Belfast.With over twenty-five years’ experience, Clare is a highly regarded and inspiring upper strings teacher, orchestral coach and adjudicator. Her passion for music education has led her into a successful leadership career in schools. After serving as Head of Music and the Arts at a leading preparatory school in the New Forest, she was appointed Head of Music and Performing Arts at Wells Cathedral Prep School in 2021. Under her leadership, the department has received national recognition, winning the Dynamic Performing Arts (Prep) award in the Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards 2024.
Clare also teaches within the String Department at Wells Cathedral School, where she continues to support and nurture the next generation of young musicians
