Ariane competes at TAGB World Championships

Ariane Lynn-Jones (Year 8) competed at the Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB) World Championships in July.

Fifteen countries from across the globe took part in this hard-fought competition, with the Skydome in Coventry filled to the rafters with competitors and spectators. Ariane won a silver medal in the U15 red-belt heavyweight division for individual sparring; she was the youngest and shortest competitor in the division, yet lost only narrowly in the final.

Ariane also won a bronze medal in the U15 team sparring event. Her trio, named the Tri-Nations as they were English, Scottish and Welsh, won their first and second rounds before losing in the semi-finals to the event-winning team from Poland. With one of the Polish representatives training with the national Olympic squad, the standard was very high but this made it a great learning experience for the trio who had only met for the first time that morning.

Well done to Ariane on a fantastic performance!
