Lower Sixth TED Talk night WCS Wells Cathedral School Independent Prep Somerset England

Lower Sixth TED Talk night

What a night! Our Lower Sixth pupils delivered an incredible evening of thought-provoking, engaging and inspiring talks, covering everything from the psychology of eating animal products to the search for life in space. The atmosphere was electric, with peers, staff and parents offering unwavering support and enthusiasm for each speaker.

From Hugo P-F’s insights on making a TED Talk to Lucas G’s guide on songwriting, every talk showcased the dedication and creativity of our pupils. Adelaide K made a compelling case for chickenpox vaccination, while Mike G explored the unsettling reality of data selling. Charlie M questioned when graffiti becomes historically significant, and Ellie A captivated us with the mathematical intrigue of √2. Olivia G tackled the psychology behind consuming animal products, while Alvan W delved into why some people hate maths. Bea D brought literary debate to life with Bridget Jones, and Jemima L explored Taylor Swift’s role as a political asset. Freddie T and Keon Y sparked discussion on whether sequels can outshine originals, while Kitty H reflected on society’s fear of aging.

The evening was not just about delivering a talk – it was a celebration of the journey. From picking a topic to researching and refining their ideas, each pupil demonstrated impressive growth, not only in their confidence but also in their ability to engage and inspire an audience. The warmth and positivity in the room made it a truly special event, and every speaker should feel a real sense of achievement. They certainly made Dr Mitchell exceptionally proud.
