We know that every family is different and that boarding should work for you, not the other way around. That’s why Wells Cathedral School offers Flexi-Boarding: a flexible, practical and affordable boarding option designed for modern family life.
Whether your child needs a regular overnight stay due to extracurricular commitments, your work schedule, or simply to reduce travel time, Flexi-Boarding gives you the best of both worlds: the structure and care of our Boarding Houses, with the freedom to return home when it suits.
What Is Flexi-Boarding?
Flexi-Boarding allows day pupils to stay overnight in one of our Boarding Houses for up to three nights per week on a regular, pre-agreed basis. They’ll have their own bed for the night, space to work and relax, and enjoy supper and breakfast with their peers.
It’s the perfect solution for:
- Busy family schedules
- Long commutes
- Evening rehearsals, sports or study groups
- Pupils curious about the boarding experience
- Families considering full or weekly boarding in the future

All Flexi-Boarding rates include supper, overnight accommodation, breakfast, and care within the Boarding House community. Bed spaces may be occupied on different nights by different flexi-boarders, and allocation will be managed flexibly across the week by our House staff. Depending on bed availability allocations may have to be made in Houses which the day pupil is not a member of (ie a Plumptre boarder may have to flexi board in Edwards).
