Ralf’s story
I’d say a bursary has been completely life changing for me. That sounds extreme, but I mean, it gives me the opportunity to be able to have this kind of education and the opportunities I’ve had at Wells.I joined the School in Year 1 and I’m in Sixth Form now. Financially it’s been difficult for me to stay at the school. My mum and dad have worked really hard, but it’s been tough for them. They’ve made a lot of sacrifices to help me stay at Wells. But it still wouldn’t have been possible without a bursary.
Staying here has been huge for me because it means I get to do what I love all the time. Sport is a big part of my school life because I play three or four times a week, as well as for my local rugby club and a four year stint with Bristol Bears. I’m really proud to be selected First XV Rugby Captain in my final year – it means a lot. If I hadn’t been able to stay at Wells my life would be taking a completely different direction.
I’m extremely thankful for the support I’ve been given. I’ve developed really far academically. I’ve grown in my sport. I’m looking forward to the next stage in my life and getting in to university. The best thing about Wells for me is friends. I’ve had the same friendship group since I was six. Wells isn’t a big school so I know everyone in my year and all the teachers. It’s the best sense of community. A bursary made it possible for me to experience this, and I’ll always be grateful.
