Simon Lloyd, Head of Academic Music

Having taught at Wells since 2019, Simon took up the post of Head of Academic Music in September 2023. He also coaches the school’s harpsichord pupils and co-ordinates the provision of Early Music. His move to Wells followed six years as Choral Specialist & Organist at St George’s Junior School in Weybridge. Alongside teaching, Simon is an active performer. Having held organist positions at St Etheldreda’s, Ely Place and Westminster Cathedral, he is currently Director of Music at the Carmelite Priory in London. The choir’s CD of two Masses by the Carmelite composer Frei Manuel Cardoso was ‘highly recommended’ by Rebecca Tavener (Choir & Organ), with the world premiere recordings described as ‘a glorious tribute to the composer’, and the choir praised for its ‘fine legato … power, emotion, and joyful esprit de corps’.
