Clare Rowntree, Head of Music and Performing Arts (Prep School)

Clare studied the viola with Peter Lewis at Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban) and, after graduating, embarked on a freelance performing career, working with numerous orchestras including The Bristol Ensemble, Orchestra of the Swan and Bath Philharmonia. Her string quartet has also worked extensively across the South of England, including playing at the Millenium Dome (now The O2), performing for royalty, and playing aboard HMS Belfast.

For over twenty years, Clare has been a highly-regarded upper strings teacher and orchestral coach and in recent years, her career has also taken her into the classroom. After a period as Head of Music and the Arts at a New Forest prep school, Clare became Head of Music and Performing Arts at Wells Cathedral Prep School in 2021.
