Emma Richards, Viola

Cardiff-based violist Emma Richards enjoys a busy and varied career as a soloist and chamber musician. She specialises in contemporary music, working in collaboration with composers and championing new and lesser known works for the viola. Distractfold Ensemble, of which Emma is a founding member, performs and coaches internationally and is currently working on a series of portrait recordings.

As an orchestral musician she has worked with Welsh National Opera, BBC NOW, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata and Northern Sinfonia. Emma is an experienced music for health practitioner, delivering projects in diverse settings such as hospitals, special schools and prisons. She has been a regular guest lecturer in the Music for Health program at the Royal Northern College of Music.

As a teacher and educator Emma has worked at Durham, Stanford, Harvard and Brunel Universities as well as holding as position at RNCM Young Strings. She currently works in the junior department of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is passionate about developing the next generation of young viola players.
