Project Description

Joanne Green, Violin

Joanne Green is a violinist with the Scottish Ensemble, the Bristol Ensemble and is the co-founder of Breathe Music, an organisation to bring professional classical concerts to rural local churches in Somerset.

Australian by birth, Joanne followed her dreams on the violin and at the age of 23 found herself in London at the Royal College of Music on a postgraduate scholarship.

Never heading back to the antipodes, she found her musical home with the Scottish Ensemble, an organisation she has been a member of since 2003. The 12 member ensemble explores how music can be performed, shared and enjoyed by performers and audiences alike – with thought-provoking collaborations. The creative, innovative mindset generated by the group spills over into the rest of Joanne’s life, influencing how she approaches the rest of her portfolio career. Her work on the violin encompasses both modern and baroque.

Joanne is passionate about sharing her music skills. She is a member of the Somerset Music Education Hub’s advisory board, Deputy Chair of the European String Teachers Association UK (ESTA UK), and the co-founder of Breathe Music. Teaching is an important part of her life. When living in Glasgow she taught for 10 years at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and now, alongside Wells Cathedral School, she is currently a visiting music specialist Kings Bruton School in Somerset. In the holidays Joanne enjoys being a music tutor for the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO).

Join us at our Open Day on Saturday 5th October and see why so many people find Wells such a special place!
