Online Music Tuition
Wells Music International (WMI) is an initiative of Wells Cathedral School, one of the world’s leading music specialist schools, to provide exceptional online music tuition.
WMI students are assigned a dedicated music tutor based on their instrument, ability and aspirations; WMI tutors are Wells Cathedral School teachers, many of whom also teach at Conservatoire and are professional performers themselves.
WMI students also benefit from an additional 10% off of our residential music courses that run each summer.
About the Online Programme
Students sign up on a termly or annual basis, and receive:
- Ten 1-2-1 online lessons (duration one hour) each term on their chosen instrument (including voice and composition) with one of our exceptional tutors, who will provide guidance and mentorship
- Online group study sessions, covering topics such as general musicianship, music theory and aural skills
- The chance to participate in online Performance Classes
- A certificate of completion (having completed a full year of study)
- A 10% discount on Wells Cathedral School’s residential music courses.
Students may also choose to undertake further lessons on a second instrument.
Who is it for?
The programme is for musicians aged 10-18.
The programme is not for beginners, but for musicians who have already attained a degree of proficiency in their instrument. For more detailed information, please contact us. The lessons will be held in English, and therefore all students must have sufficient proficiency in English.
The programme may be particularly suitable for students who are seeking to:
- Secure a scholarship to Wells Cathedral School or another specialist music school
- Secure a music scholarship at a non-specialist independent school
- Prepare for an audition for music conservatoire or a music university course
- Prepare for a diploma or one of the higher music grade exams
- Benefit from specialist music training but are not ready to change schools for family or geographical reason ( ie. are not ready to attend as a boarder).
How to Apply
In order to access one of our courses you will be required to submit a video recording of a recent performance. This will then be followed by an online audition and advice consultation which will enable a suitable programme to be put in place.
Step 1 – Complete the online application form.
Step 2 – Send a video of a recent performance to:

Step 3 – On receipt of your application, we will contact you within five days to arrange an online audition and consultation. Please note that there is an audition fee of £125, which we will charge when we arrange your audition.
