Tower Poetry Finalist
Congratulations to Year 12 student Miranda, who was selected as one of the six finalists in the prestigious Oxford Tower Poetry Competition 2018. Miranda attended the awards ceremony over the Easter recess where she met the judges, Christopher Reid, John Fuller, and Peter McDonald and received a significant cash prize for her poem, Corner Table at Tom’s Cafe. Her poem was highly commended. In addition to her individual prize, Miranda also received a cash prize for the school.
Tower Poetry is an organisation based at Christ Church, University of Oxford, which offers opportunities and resources for young British poets. It aims to develop the role of poetry in education and enable new poets to develop their talents through a series of exciting initiatives ranging from courses, competitions, and workshops to readings and publications.
Miranda’s success in the Tower Poetry Competition follows an inspiring line of poets from Wells, including most recently, Jack Whitehead and James Browning.
