Hard-working Brass Musicians

Head of student performance and co-ordinator of brass studies, Paul Denegri, has been out on the road with dedicated Wells’ musicians for three concerts in the past seven days, in addition to the commitments of musicians in end-of-term performances as part of the Symphony Orchestra’s performances of Holst’s The Planets at Wells Cathedral, the Jazz Picnic and the Music Extravaganza at Cedars Hall.

The brass department gave a wonderful concert to a full house at The Beaminster Festival. Invited to perform by the committee at their all-important Trustee and Sponsors Opening Gala Concert, brass musicians performed early music on period instruments through to lighter numbers. 28 musicians performed, one third of the brass cohort at Wells.

Earlier in the week, nine musicians from Years 7-13 gave a stunning lunchtime concert in Winchester Cathedral to an appreciative audience of over 250; whilst on the last evening of June, the Brass Quintet and Harps (Katie and Jess) performed a whole new set of repertoire in South Petherton to a very sizeable audience.

Paul said, “Students were superb on all three trips, and it was a pleasure being with them.”
