Speech Day

Wells students, parents and staff enjoyed a glorious end to the academic year at this year’s Speech Day on Friday 6th July, with Prize-giving, poignant service at Wells Cathedral and informal buffet on Cedars Lawn.

As Elizabeth Cairncross celebrated her final Speech Day as principal, following 18 successful years at the helm of the school, it was apt that she gave the main speech at senior school Prize-giving, encouraging student leavers to always turn up and take part, to vote and to be kind, as her final words of wisdom, between the presentation of prizes, review and reflections on the school year from head of the senior school, Dr Andy Kemp, and head boy and head girl, Henry and Elizabeth.

Prize-giving was followed by a heart-warming service at Wells Cathedral, introduced by outgoing Wells School Chaplain, The Revd Juliette Hulme, with a sermon by Wells Chair of Governors and Dean of Wells Cathedral, The Very Revd Dr John Davies DL.

The day was rounded off with a buffet in the marquee on Cedars Lawn and in the beautiful school grounds, with the opportunity to view the A-level and GCSE Art and Photography Exhibitions in the John Baxter Foyer of Cedars Hall and in the Art department.
