Badminton Bonanza for Kevin
Congratulations to Year 11 pupil Kevin Luk, who has achieved considerable success in a series of national Badminton tournaments since the start of the new academic year.
In early September, Kevin played in the singles competition of the Badminton England Gloucester Senior Bronze tournament at Cheltenham. This was his first senior event playing against competitors ranked at a much higher level than him, and he reached the semi-finals, losing narrowly to Shane Wilson, a member of the Jamaican National Badminton Team, and six years older than Kevin.
A week later, Kevin played doubles with a player from Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School at the Badminton England Oxfordshire U19 Bronze tournament played at Abingdon. They reached the final, losing to a very strong pair from Surrey.
This weekend Kevin played in the singles competition of the Badminton England Milton Keynes Senior Bronze Tournament held at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes. Despite the high standard of the tournament and a series of very tough matches, Kevin once again reached the finals, losing once again to senior Shane Wilson. Two Wells doubles teams, comprising Kevin Luk and Lower Sixth pupil John Woo; and Upper Sixth pupils Melvyn Gnai and Nate Leong also played in this senior tournament.
