Congratulations to the following eight Wells musicians, who have reached the next round of the prestigious BBC Young Musician Competition 2019:
Ruby Cheung, Year 11, Keyboards (piano); Eliza Haskins, Year 11, Woodwind (recorder); Ella Leonard, Upper Sixth, Woodwind (oboe); Max Li, Lower Sixth, Keyboards (piano); Jack Luk, Upper Sixth, Keyboards (piano); Nellie Whittam, Lower Sixth, Strings (violin); Bridget Yee, Year 11, Keyboards (piano); Sejin Yoon, Lower Sixth, Keyboards (piano).
The pupils will now compete in the next stage of the competition in Cardiff in late November and early December. From these, five musicians will be chosen from each section, to progress to the televised rounds.
The Category Finals and the Semi-Final will be held at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in March 2020. The Grand Final will be held in May 2020 at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, where finalists will have the opportunity to perform a concerto of their choice with the BBC Philharmonic.
The competition will be broadcast on BBC Four, with complementary coverage on BBC Radio 3.
