Global Successes for Wells Pianists
Being in lockdown hasn’t prevented Wells pupils from triumphing in two major international competitions, performing from their homes.
There was an astonishing level of success for Wells pianists in the Newport Rhode Island USA International Virtuosi Music Competition 2020. This prestigious competition attracted entrants from a dozen countries, and all six Wells pianists who entered claimed a share of either first or second place in their respective age categories. Huge congratulations to Lucille, Bibi, Edvard, Sejin, Max and Ruby.
The Piano Competition of the Chopin Society of Malaysia attracted a similarly international field, and once again Wells pupils performed exceptionally well. Max claimed a share of third place in the Senior section, and Bridget gained a share of first place in the Junior section.
Such a wide spread of prizes emphasises the strength in depth of the Keyboard Department at Wells, where numerous pupils across all age groups have been enjoying success across the globe.
John Byrne, Head of Keyboard, said: “I’m so proud of all of our pupils for their incredible skill and dedication, and I’m also proud of our teachers, who have continued to provide truly exceptional tuition throughout lockdown. I’m looking forward to the day when we can all meet again, and celebrate in person!”
