This Week at Wells
We received results for the latest round of Trinity Instrumental and Vocal exams, and we’re delighted to say that 100% of Wells pupils gained a Distinction! Congratulations to all involved.
On Thursday, four Wells pupils – Yuhan Zhang (Year 11), Flo Gummer (Year 10), Archie Bray (Year 9) and Hana Wong (Year 9) – took part in the first round of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s “Top of the Bench” competition. They had to work remotely as a team to complete four tasks in two hours: a general chemistry knowledge quiz, a practical and data collection task, a lab equipment quiz, and some chemistry themed dingbats. Good luck to them all!
On Monday, Wells percussionists were able to take part in a brand new mentoring scheme, offering an incredible opportunity to work alongside experienced musicians. Every week, Wells pupils Stan Talman (Upper Sixth), Yufei Zhu (Lower Sixth) and Theo Veitch (Lower Sixth) will rehearse online alongside students at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – including Old Wellensian Alex Henshaw – working to a final performance date. This scheme was introduced by Jayne Obradovic and Toby Kearney, Principal Percussionist in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Congratulations to Orlando Edwards (Year 8) and his brother Oskar (Year 11) who have completed a Biathlon, consisting of a 40km cycle followed by a 10km run, raising over £500 for the charity Debra. Debra is the national charity supporting those directly affected by, and working with, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a potentially fatal skin condition that causes constant pain due to unstoppable internal and external blistering. Debra provides lifelong care and support to the entire EB community.
Finally, we took the opportunity this week to thank our wonderful Covid testing team. We’ve been providing Covid Lateral Flow testing for on-site Senior School pupils and staff, which can feel daunting, so we’re lucky to have a team who possess such expertise and kindness. Thank you to Sue, Cherry, Sarah, Cathy & all our volunteers!
