Calling all Young Brass Players for “Salsa Brass Go!”

Wells Cathedral School School is thrilled to announce “Salsa Brass Go!”, an exciting new online project aiming to inject life and energy into this wintry lockdown.

The aim of this free project is to help brass players to develop their skills, meet other performers online, and have fun!

Wells Cathedral School – one of the UK’s five specialist music schools – is putting out a call for any brass players aged under 18, between Grade 2 and Grade 8 standard. Participants will learn and perform the scintillating SuperBrass piece Salsabasco. Their individual recorded performances will then be expertly combined into a collaborative video performance of the piece.

Participants will receive sheet music and backing tracks, and will be able to tap into advice and expert tutorials. They will also be able to take part in an amazing free brass masterclass with incredible virtuoso performer Philip Cobb. And after the lockdown – fingers crossed – they will also be invited to attend live free, fun sessions at Wells, to recreate their online performance and meet fellow performers in person!

Ross Brown, Head of Brass at Wells Cathedral School, said:

“Let’s be honest, we’ve all hated lockdown, but here at Wells we’ve been coming up with some imaginative ways to perform, learn and have fun together. I’m so thrilled that thanks to our friends at B&S and SuperBrass, we can open this up to young brass players across the world. I can’t wait to meet you all! Just please don’t ask me to do any salsa dancing myself…”

Salsa Brass Go! is available to young musicians aged under 18 between grade 2 and grade 8 standard on the Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Euphonium, Trombone or Tuba.

Registration is now open at https://wells.cathedral.school/salsa-registration

This free project is sponsored by B&S Brass Instruments and SuperBrass.
