History Trip to Berlin
Approximately 40 pupils from Years 10 and 11 spent a memorable few days in Berlin to reinforce their learning as part of the History GCSE syllabus. They also experienced an extraordinary city with so many stories to tell.
The trip included two guided tours of West and East Berlin with a focus on the second World War and the Cold War. The tours absorbed the historical landmark, Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall and the stunning Reichstag and Bundestag parliament buildings. They also walked through Brandenburg Gate and took in the 2,711 concrete slabs that are known as the Holocaust Memorial. Much of the content of the trip was sobering and not least the afternoons spent in the Stazi Prizon and the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp which operated from 1936-1945. However there were plenty of lighter moments and an evening out encompassed a light show and a game of ten pin bowling which was great fun! A thoroughly worthwhile venture and particular thanks to Mr Eldridge for setting up the trip.
